ABOUT ME
My name is Kacey McCann and one of the most important things to note about me is that music will live within me forever. All I have ever done and ever wanted to do is sing. From as early as I can remember, I’ve always been the first up in the karaoke bar with a line-up of 6 songs already prepared. Whether I knew all the words or just one line of the chorus, I was singing my favourite songs to anyone who would listen; and not much has changed since.
As Bob Marley once said in his infamous song Buffalo Soldier, “If you know your history, then you will know where you’re coming from”. And one thing that is very clear to me is that music is just in my blood.
My Grandad came over from St Kitts in the Caribbean at just 18 years old and one thing he never left behind was his love of music. He played the steel pan drums in bands throughout his life.
My mom and aunties were in a motown band when they were younger with their specialty being covers of songs by The Supremes.
Growing up, I was encouraged by my family, particularly my Auntie Jan Jan to sing. From karaoke in her living room to singing Sixth Street and Stir It Up at her 50th she has always been my number 1 fan. Because she herself has such a beautiful gift and like me has always loved to sing and write music.
My uncle and Godfather John still continues to play in a reggae band called One Love. He has accompanied me on many gigs including Sutton’s Got Musical Talent and Turning on the Christmas Lights at Gracechurch Shopping centre. He has also invited me to perform at his own gigs, singing reggae-inspired versions of my favourite songs. He is always opening new doors for me, allowing me to gain more experience with performing and is still the first person I message when I need any sort of advice about music.
My mom and dad’s eclectic love of music has made me so appreciative of each genre. My love for music ranges from Andrea Bocelli all the way to Usher and I have to thank my parents for always exposing me to each style of music with an unconditional belief that I can sing anything. I will forever be grateful for the support and trust they have put into my dreams.
And now me.
The youngest in my family so far to share this passion but definitely one of the most dedicated. I have performed in and won competitions including Sutton’s Got Musical Talent and Walsall Pop Stars affording me many gig opportunities and even the pleasure of playing with my own band, Ms. Fourtune. Although we have disbanded now due to our educational careers taking us in different directions, it was still one of the most amazing experiences of my life.
I also love musical theatre performing in Hairspray and Sound of Music and I hope to do more of this with my dream roles being Eponine from Les Miserables and Jenna in Waitress.
Currently, however, I gig solo, doing birthdays, weddings and general celebratory get togethers. I also love to play piano and write my own music. This is all alongside my University career in Psychology.
Music is just in my blood. It is my biggest love and takes me to my happy place. When I stand behind the microphone, I am truly Kacey McCann, and have never been more comfortable being me. I really hope you enjoy my music as much as I enjoy making it.
